TL;DR: Construction sites in the UAE rely on non-potable water tankers for concrete curing, dust suppression, soil compaction, and site cleaning. This guide explains what water types are available, how tanker sizing works, and what to check before booking a supplier in Dubai, Sharjah, or Abu Dhabi.

Water is one of the most overlooked logistics decisions on a UAE construction site. Most project managers focus on materials, labour, and permits — and then realise mid-pour that they have no water supply arranged. In Dubai and Sharjah, where mains water connections to live construction plots are often unavailable or restricted, tanker delivery is the only practical solution.

Getting the wrong tanker type, or booking a supplier who doesn't show up on time, can halt a concrete pour, crack freshly laid foundations, or cause dust violations that attract municipality fines. This guide covers everything you need to know before you book.

What Water Types Do Construction Sites in the UAE Actually Need?

UAE construction sites use three types of non-potable water: raw construction water (for curing, compaction, and dust suppression), grey water or treated sewage effluent (TSE) for irrigation and landscaping on larger developments, and brackish or saline water for soil stabilisation in coastal projects. None of these are suitable for human consumption. Raseen supplies construction water and grey water tankers only — we do not transport drinking water.

Concrete curing is the largest single use. After a slab is poured, it needs to stay moist for a minimum of seven days to reach design strength. In the UAE summer, ambient temperatures above 40°C cause surface water to evaporate within minutes, so continuous tanker supply becomes critical. ASTM C31 curing standards require consistent moisture throughout this period.

Dust suppression is the second major use. Sharjah Municipality and Dubai Municipality both issue on-the-spot fines for construction dust escaping a site boundary. A 10,000-gallon tanker covering a medium-sized plot perimeter twice daily keeps the site compliant and avoids neighbour complaints.

Tanker Sizes: Which Capacity Do You Need?

Water tankers in the UAE typically come in three sizes: 1,000 gallons (around 4,500 litres), 5,000 gallons (around 22,700 litres), and 10,000 gallons (around 45,400 litres). The right size depends on your daily demand, site access, and delivery frequency.

A small residential plot under 500 square metres doing foundation work will typically need one 5,000-gallon delivery per day. A larger commercial slab pour or road compaction project in Muwaileh or Mussafah may require two 10,000-gallon tankers running back to back.

Narrow residential streets in older Sharjah districts like Al Qasimia or Al Nahda often cannot accommodate the largest tankers. In those cases, two 5,000-gallon runs are more practical than one 10,000-gallon delivery that can't reach the site. See our water tanker service page for current capacity availability.

How Does Tanker Scheduling Work on a Live Site?

Most contractors block-book a recurring daily slot rather than calling on demand. This avoids the risk of the tanker being unavailable during a critical curing window. When you book with Raseen, we agree a delivery window (typically a two-hour slot), and the driver calls 30 minutes before arrival.

For urgent same-day requests, contact us via WhatsApp with your location, the quantity needed, and the water type. We cover Dubai and Sharjah with an average response time of under 60 minutes during working hours. Abu Dhabi deliveries to Mussafah and Khalifa City are available with slightly longer lead times.

What's the Difference Between a Sewage Tanker and a Construction Water Tanker?

These are completely separate vehicles with separate certification. A construction water tanker carries clean, non-potable water for site use. A sewage tanker (also called a vacuum tanker or gulper) removes waste water, grey water, and effluent from septic tanks, temporary site toilets, and blocked drainage. Using the wrong tanker type for either job is a health violation.

Raseen operates both tanker types but keeps them strictly separate. If you're clearing site welfare facilities or de-sludging a temporary septic tank, that's a sewage removal job. If you're supplying water for curing or dust suppression, that's a construction water delivery. Our team will confirm which service applies when you enquire. Contact us to confirm the right tanker type.

UAE Regulations on Construction Site Water Use

Dubai Municipality's Green Building Regulations and Sharjah's construction by-laws both require that water used on construction sites comes from approved non-potable sources. Using potable mains water for dust suppression or compaction is prohibited under UAE water conservation regulations, and Bee'ah (Sharjah's environmental authority) actively monitors large sites.

For sites operating under a Sharjah Municipality or SEWA-connected plot, your contractor must confirm the water source in the site management plan. Tanker delivery from a licensed supplier satisfies this requirement. Keep delivery notes from each tanker visit as part of your site documentation.

What to Check Before Booking a Water Tanker Supplier in UAE

Not all tanker operators are equal. Before booking, confirm: the supplier is licensed by the relevant emirate authority; the tanker is regularly cleaned and inspected; the driver knows your site access constraints; and the supplier can provide a delivery note with volume, timestamp, and vehicle registration for your site records.

Avoid suppliers who can't confirm the water source or who offer unusually low rates — these are often signals of unlicensed operations using untreated water that can contaminate fresh concrete or damage irrigation systems on landscaping contracts.

Raseen provides delivery notes with every tanker visit. We operate across all Sharjah zones, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

Typical Water Tanker Costs in UAE (2024)

Water tanker pricing in the UAE is quoted per delivery rather than per litre. A 5,000-gallon delivery within Sharjah typically ranges between AED 150 and AED 250 depending on distance, time of day, and scheduling. A 10,000-gallon delivery runs AED 280 to AED 400. Same-day or emergency bookings carry a premium.

Contracts for daily site supply are always cheaper per delivery than one-off calls. If your project runs for more than two weeks, ask about a recurring contract rate. Request a quote via WhatsApp with your site location and daily volume estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Raseen supply drinking water tankers?

No. Raseen supplies non-potable water only: construction water for curing, compaction, and dust suppression, plus grey water and sewage removal services. We do not transport or supply drinking water under any circumstances. For drinking water supply, contact a licensed potable water provider.

Can you deliver to an active construction site with restricted access?

Yes. We operate 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000-gallon tankers. For sites with narrow access in older Sharjah neighbourhoods or tight residential streets, we use smaller tankers and run multiple deliveries. Let us know the site access constraints when you book and we'll send the right vehicle.

How quickly can you respond to an emergency water delivery in Dubai?

For urgent same-day requests in Dubai and Sharjah, we aim to arrive within 60 minutes during working hours. Send your location, volume required, and water type via WhatsApp for the fastest dispatch. We cover Mussafah and Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi with slightly longer lead times.

What's the difference between construction water and grey water?

Construction water is raw non-potable water sourced from approved suppliers, used for concrete curing, soil compaction, and dust suppression. Grey water is lightly treated waste water (from sinks, showers, or drainage) that can be used for irrigation and landscaping on larger UAE developments under specific permits. Both are distinct from sewage.

Do you supply water tankers for swimming pool filling in Sharjah?

Yes. Pool filling is a standard residential use for our construction water tankers. A typical residential pool requires two to four 10,000-gallon deliveries. We can schedule these back to back on the same day. Contact us for a pool filling quote.
